5 Tips for a Safer Online Shopping Experience

Living in this digital age, most of the money we spend is online. Shopping has never been easier and more convenient; with just a few clicks, you can have whatever you want at your doorstep!

While most of the transactions are uneventful, surely you’ve heard stories of items coming in miniature sizes or clothes that don’t fit quite as well as you’d expect. At other times, a larger sum might be deducted from your card or the items you’re longing for never show up. If you’re not looking for a funny story to tell, we recommend the following tips:

  • Use a familiar shopping site

We are constantly bombarded with ads and sponsored content on all our platforms. As a result, we are always tempted to buy new items. One search engine can lead you to 20 different websites. The question is: which website should I trust? If you already know the store, shopping there is safe. If you don’t, make sure to do some research or ask a friend. Promotions and sales are very inviting, but they are also most likely scams!

  • Look for the lock

Make sure the website you buy from has an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). SSL ensures that data is transmitted in an encrypted form over a secured network; so keep an eye out for a lock!

  • Create a unique password

The majority of us are too lazy to change our passwords, but it’s very necessary, especially when you’re purchasing things online! Passwords are always our best line of defense from hackers, so make sure they’re hacker-proof.

  • Check and save web statements

Regularly checking your electronic statements is a necessity; In case of any wrong transactions or extra charges taking place, you should always be on the ready to notify your bank or card issuers. Also, document your online purchases at all times and save the receipt or confirmation number until you receive your product.

  • Do not store your credit card information online

Many online shopping sites give you the option of storing your card information after making a transaction; while it might make future transactions more convenient, you are putting your information at risk.

Overall, being careful and taking your time with purchasing goods online is very crucial. The convenience and speed of online shopping may make every transaction quick and without thought, but it’s up to you to turn every purchase into an unforgettable shopping experience by following a few simple steps!
