The Future of Gaming with the PlayStation 5
November 12 2020 will witness the release of the long awaited PlayStation5. Its release will be a huge step in the gaming industry into a new gaming era. In the reveal event, Sony described its newly designed console as “the future of gaming”.
Sony has been one of the major companies in the gaming industry for 26 years. People liked the gaming consoles Sony used to sell which prompted them to proceed in improving and creating new consoles over the course of 26 years.
As Sony revealed, the PS5 will be a step towards the future of gaming. PS5 will be able to reach 120 frames per second which is a new fps limit for gaming consoles. With an upgraded RAM of 16 GB, PS5 will be able to load games faster than previous consoles launched by Sony.
PlayStation Consoles History
Sony introduced its first PlayStation in December 1994. People liked the console and the idea behind it increasing its popularity. The popularity of this console increased with the presence of a wide variety of games with reasonable prices. By late 90s, Sony became the leading brand and bypassed Nintendo which was the leading brand for multiple years.
In July 2000, Sony released the PS1 a smaller and thinner version of the PlayStation. Both PS and PS1 sold over 100 million units. March 2000 witnessed the release of the PS2. This console was designed to compete with popular consoles back then such as Xbox and Nintendo. PS2 was also introduced in a slimmer version in 2004. Until now, PS2 is the best-selling video game console of all time. Over 155 million consoles where sold until December 2012 when Sony decided to stop producing the console.
After the PS2, Sony decided to release the PS3 in November 2006. The PS3 used Blu-ray Disc technology, supported HD resolution, and introduced the social gaming service PlayStation Network. PS3 was the first Sony console to use wireless controllers. In 2009, Sony produced a slimmer version of the PS3 and in 2012, they redesigned the whole console. Sony sold over 80 million PS3 consoles until 2013 and decided to stop the production of the PS3 in 2017.
PlayStation 4 was released in November 2013. It was different from previous Sony consoles where games were available on high resolution. The PS4’s hardware was similar to that of gaming PCs which helped game developers in producing more games. In 2016, PS4 slim and PS4 pro were both released. The PS4 slim was only smaller than the normal PS4 however the PS4 pro included an upgraded GPU and high CPU clock and it was designed to support 4K screens.
