We shall start with one of the chill options, none other than Yoga of course! In the modern world, yoga is defined as a posture-based physical fitness, stress-relief and relaxation technique. All you have to do is mimic the positions aiming to stretch your muscles and relax your body and you’ll also learn how to ground your breath, in and out to feel zen in your mind, body and spirit. The cool thing about it is that you can practice it anywhere, and during the summer you can just go out to the beach or even your garden and be one with the elements of nature. Namaste!

Get yourself a mat and inhale… and exhale…

Moving on to something a bit more fun. Remember when you were a kid and you’d bounce on trampolines all the time? Well now you can be a kid again! Turns out that jumping on a trampoline for just 10 minutes a day is a very good cardio exercise. If you’re looking for a fun way to burn calories and melt the fat right down, this one’s for you. It has been proven that you can lose weight thanks to this routine, it’s even become a competitive sport and here’s an idea you can take a class with all your friends, blast on some loud music to keep you pumped and see who can jump for the longest time. You can even learn some cool tricks, this will become your new favorite activity for sure!

JUMP!

Speaking of being a kid, everyone has a specific memory of how they learned to ride a bike. But cycling is not just something you learn when you’re little. You can practice it as an adult as well, not only is it a recreational activity, it’s also a sport and a means of transport. It’s not only better for the environment, it’s also great for your health as it can reduce the appearance of many different diseases. Cycling is great for one’s well being, breathing in the fresh air, moving your body and exploring nature, all the necessary ingredients for a peaceful mind. You can ride your bike anywhere, it’s a good habit to have and if you decide to become a pro, who knows maybe one day we’ll see you taking part in the Tour de France.

Ring ring… all the neighbors will know it’s you saying hello

These next ones are a blast for kids and adults alike. You can go rollerblading or skateboarding with your best buds or your children if you’re a parent and want to be the cool dad/mom. It’s quite the exercise as it requires balance and stamina. But as soon as you get the hang of it you’re bound to have a lot of fun. You can even perform tricks and show them off at the skatepark, you can also go back in time, get a disco ball, a boombox and turn up the volume to 80s pop hits and learn some groovy moves. Whatever style you choose, we’re positive you’ll rock it.

Don’t forget your knee pads and helmets!!!

You know what’s coming up: Hiking! It’s a big favorite during the summer as you enjoy the natural scenery, explore never before seen areas and get some healthy exercise in. In Lebanon, there’s a plethora of hiking spots you can visit with a group of friends or as a solo traveler. There are countless hiking trails for all levels, be prepared for rock climbing and perhaps a short swim in the regions that offer natural springs and lakes. Bonus, you can take loads of pictures on the journey, early birds can catch the sunrise while nightowls can snap a shot of the sunset. Either way it’s probably the most beautiful activity you can take up, so don’t waste any more time and plan a hike asap!

You’ll definitely be needing some heavy duty hiking shoes

Now onto a sport that involves the beach and no we’re not referring to swimming. Actually we were thinking of something more along the lines of volleyball. This ball sport involves two teams of six players being separated by a net, all they have to do is get the ball to touch the ground on the other team’s side. In fact, it’s become an Olympic sport as of 1964. It’s great for big families, a group of friends and even kids. But remember to have fun and preserve the team spirit. On the plus side, if you’re playing on the beach you can get a golden tan all the while beating your opponents. You can plan matches at your local beach or even join a club, it’s a great way to keep moving and mingle with others.

You better get your sunglasses because sand will be everywhere!

Racket sports are a good way to sneak in some calorie burning. Whether you’re in the mountains, at the beach or even in the parking lot of your building, it’s always a good idea to grab a buddy and challenge them to a tournament. It could be tennis, ping-pong, badminton or padel, whichever one you like, racket sports require focus, good aim and most importantly a strong arm game. These sports can be played in teams of two or four members. It could be a bonding activity for siblings or even an exercise date for couples. You can even work on that silly grunt players let out, as long as you’re laughing, it’s a good game.

Team Djokovic or Team Nadal?

Can’t go to Hawaii or Australia? Who cares, you can still catch some awesome waves right here in Lebanon. Surfing is one of the most popular water sports. Haven’t you always wondered what it’s like to ride a wave, have the wind blowing in your face and a crowd cheering you on by the shore? Well, it’s never too late to try something new. You can become a pro in no time if you really set your mind to it. To complete the surfer dude look, you’ll need long hair, and a beaded necklace or a shark tooth pendant and voila if you already got the look, might as well play the part. Try it out!

Boards need some lovin too, always wax before you go

Kayaking is a sport you can practice alone or in pairs. Basically, you have to sit down and use a paddle while doing a rotating motion to get you moving from left to right. You’ll need to have a good grip on the paddle as they can be pretty heavy. You can do this in calm waters or in a bit more extreme form like in a strong current river, but beware of rocks and waterfalls. It’s a great workout for your chest and your back muscles, you can follow the groups of fish or you can have a splish splash with a friend while the wind and water carry you. Put on some sunscreen and live an adventure!

Wear your life jacket for safety!

If you know a Disney movie called “Jump in” you’re going to like where this is going. Skipping rope may have been a ‘girly’ thing associated with pink toys and pigtails but thanks to this movie, rope jumping is no longer a stereotype. Actually, it’s an amazing cardio routine as it will get your heart rate up, move all your muscle groups and have you sweating and out of breath really fast. You can also perform this activity in groups, using a style called double dutch with different tricks and techniques. Ropes have been seen in gyms a lot in recent years and will always be a challenge for those who take it on. So are you in?

How many reps can you do?

As surprising as it may sound we’re going to mention Hula Hooping! Yes, you read that right. Although hula hoops are also considered a “toy”, women and men alike can enjoy this contraption for fitness purposes. In fact, around the world, it has become super popular especially in group classes. Hula Hooping is a great exercise to trim down your waist, it will work your upper and lower limbs as well. You’d think it’s easy but it’s a bit tricky and will require focus and flexibility. But once you get it right, you can practice it everyday, even if it’s just five minutes of your time. Put on some pop music and get twisting.

Careful, don’t get dizzy!

Water polo is not for the faint of heart. It may not sound like it but according to different sources it may be one of the most difficult sports to play. If you’re still willing to give it a shot here’s what you need to know: water polo is played in a deep water pool so players need to be swimming constantly, there are two teams each with a goalkeeper and it’s kind of like a mashup between football and basketball except in the water. Players must score goals into the opposing team’s net in order to win while others try to block or attack. A tad extreme but surely fun when practiced with friends and family.

Choose your weapon wisely and beat your enemies!
